Fifth Grade Art
Our fifth grade artists will spend the year studying art and artists from the United States. We will look at some of the most famous art movements and artists, including Native American potter Maria Martinez, Pop Artists Warhol, Thiebaud & Oldenburg and Abstract artist Frank Stella. We will make both individual and collaborative works of art and will use many different materials to create our pieces. -Mrs. Benner

MARIA MARTINEZ WAS A PUEBLO INDIAN FROM NEW MEXICO. SHE CARRIED ON A TRIBAL TRADITION OF MAKING COIL POTS. STUDENTS LEARNED HOW SHE MADE HER CLAY WITH MATERIALS FROM THE EARTH AND HOW SHE ROLLED COILS TO MAKE HER BEAUTIFUL POTTERY.
Students will build their own coil pots by rolling coils, scoring and slipping to attach.
