Fourth Grade Art
In fourth grade art, we explore art and artists from North Carolina. We learn about the three regions, how they are unique and different subjects, artists and art that come from each one. We dig deeper into the element of color as we learn about different color schemes and how artists use tints and shades to create space in their works of art. We will use a variety of materials, including clay, paint, marker and paper to create our original works of art. -Mrs. Benner
3 Regions of North Carolina
Mountains of North Carolina
We are looking at the mountain region of our great state and seeing how atmospheric perspective effects the way we see the colors of the mountains.
Students are mixing tints and shades to paint their own mountainscapes reflecting atmospheric perspective. We are also using other perspective techniques of overlapping, detail and use of foreground, middleground and background.

Face Jugs of North Carolina
Originally found in the south, including North and South Carolina and Georgia. Now made in Seagrove, NC as well as other places. Many believe jugs with faces were for the liquids you couldn’t drink, like ones filled with kerosene. According to folk lore, face jugs were also used as grave markers, made ugly to scare the devil away.
For our project, students will create their own face 'jug' using clay. We will work on different clay building skills and glazing techniques.
